Wapakoneta High School has a number of clubs that have been organized to give students who share a special interest the opportunity to get together in a congenial atmosphere. Students may join a club by contacting the faculty sponsor or advisor.

The Academic Team 
Advisor: Mr. Friemering friead@wapak.org 
The Academic Team represents WHS in local and regional academic contests. Practices occur after school with competitions and contests in the evenings and on weekends.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
This program is offered through Auglaize County and meets in St. Marys. Volunteers are assigned a student to work with and mentor. This is an excellent way for students to volunteer in the community.

Boys State-Girls State
Advisor: Mr. Minnig minnsc@wapak.org 
Each year, a group of boys and girls are selected to attend. These students have the opportunity to participate in a mock government situation for one week while getting to know students from around the state of Ohio.

Class Dances
Class and Club dances are social events sponsored by various classes or clubs to provide opportunities for recreation. Dress is usually casual. Plans for decorations are made and executed by students, usually around a theme such as Valentine’s Day or Sadie Hawkins. Music is furnished by a disc jockey hired by the sponsoring organization. The dances are instrumental in helping members of the student body make friends, practice the social graces, and develop poise and social maturity.

Class officers are elected each spring by their respective classes. Each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) elects a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. It is the responsibility of the class officers to serve as role models, encourage class spirit, represent their classmates as elected officials, and make decisions regarding activities such as Prom and class fundraising.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
Advisors: Mr. Sammons sammbi@wapak.org and Mr. Dickey dickje@wapak.org 
The FCA Mission is "To lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.  To see the world transformed by Jesus Christ!"  FCA shares devotions, volunteers (ex: Christmas shoeboxes, Adopt-A-Family, highway cleanup and baccalaureate). Students DO NOT have to be athletes to participate in FCA. All students are welcome!

World Language Club

The World Language Club meets monthly and offers students opportunities to participate in a variety of different activities and field trips that promote the world languages and cultures.

Future Farmers of America (FFA)
Advisors: Mr. Brown browro@wapak.org and Mr. Sammetinger sammcr@wapak.org
Members of the FFA are comprised students who take an agriculture class and are interested in such. The group meets once a month to work on activities such as the sausage sale, pork dinner, the consignment sale, and other service activities. The year concludes with a banquet at which many students are recognized for their special contributions to the organization throughout the year.

Gatekeepers

Gatekeepers is a group designed to be the "eyes and ears" of the school. It is a group that offers kindness and help when needed and seeks adult assistance when appropriate.  This group of students works to promote positivity at school through activities such as coffee sales, candy sales, movie night, Post-it notes, chalking the walk and more!  All are welcome to join.

Homecoming

The WHS Athletic Department and the Student Senate schedules the annual homecoming celebration for one of the home football games. Special events programmed for this occasion include a performance by the marching band, highlighted by the crowing of the homecoming king and queen. The homecoming dance is held the evening following the field festivities in the high school cafeteria commons area.

Library Assistants
Any student with a study hall is welcome to volunteer to help in the library. They are trained on proper library procedures and basic office skills. Some of the students are hired at the public library because of the experience they gain volunteering at the high school.

Marching Band

Practice for the marching band begins in late July.  Band members will perform at home and away football games.  At the end of the season, the band members are formed into the concert bands.

Pep Band
Director: Mr. Wimmers wimmst@wapak.org 
Comprised of members who are interested in participating in an energetic style band.  The group practices throughout the winter months and performs at the home basketball games.

Michelangelo Society (Art Club) 
The Art Club offers membership to all students interested in art. Special activities, projects, and guest artists showing their work will be some of the featured events for the Art Club. Members are also responsible for helping to create and develop various spirit signs for many of our extra-curricular activities.

Musical
The cast for the musical is chosen from members of the student body. Supporting musical groups are obtained from the chorus and band classes. Additional help in staging these productions is secured from qualified students in other departments of the school.

National Honor Society (NHS) 
Advisors: Mr. Friemering friead@wapak.org and Mr. Dickey dickje@wapak.org 
The purpose of the National Honor Society is to further an interest in scholastic pursuits through recognition of student achievement. All juniors with a GPA of 3.65 or above and an ACT score of 20 or above are eligible for nomination. Students who wish to place their names in nomination are to develop a listing of all school-related activities, outside jobs, public service endeavors, and church activities. The NHS is not just recognition of scholastic ability. The NHS is also an active service organization. Its goals are: 
1. to create enthusiasm for scholarship
2. to stimulate a desire to render service
3. to promote leadership
4. to develop character.

Octagon Club

The Octagon Club is a service club designed to give students an opportunity to be of service to their school and community. The club is actively involved in several continuing projects in the school and its community. Social activities are planned throughout the year. The Optimist Club of Wapakoneta sponsors the Octagon Club.

Each year a group of students volunteer to assist with various clerical duties in the high school offices. The students assigned are selected from among those volunteers who are dependable, courteous, and have a strong work ethic. The students work under the direction of staff members in the office to which they are assigned. Training gained by students in this manner can lead to temporary or permanent positions outside school.

Robotics Club

Students in our club are challenged to design, build, program, and operate a robot of their team's design to compete in a competition created by FIRST. Students learn to use STEM skills and engineering principles throughout the year. The club meets during our regular season from January through March. Power of the Pen - 8th Grade Only

Power of the Pen empowers young people to find and develop a creative voice that is uniquely their own by engaging students in interscholastic writing tournaments and providing a platform for publication. More than 3,000 students will compete directly in a Power of the Pen tournament.

Prom (Junior-Senior)
The Junior-Senior Prom is the biggest and perhaps the most elaborate social function of the entire school year. Held in April or May, it serves as a farewell honoring the seniors. The junior class sponsors the dance. Numerous committees work very hard to make this a memorable occasion.

Redskin Revue

Redskin Revue is a talent show produced in the spring. Redskin Revue is a two-night affair held in the middle school auditorium. This production is for anyone in grades 9-12. Audition sign-up sheets will be in the choir room.

Senior Instructional Leadership Program
Advisor: Mrs. Epperly eppede@wapak.org 
The program allows students to practice the art of teaching. Typically, high school seniors are connected with an elementary teacher who guide them through tutoring, building bulletin boards, teaching and more. A final portfolio is graded to earn credit for this experience. The program is designed to allow kids who are considering a degree in education to make a very informed decision about his or her future plans.

Show Choir and Red Peppers
The Show Choir is comprised of selected members. Participants are selected by audition from the vocal music classes. The group performs for community service clubs and other organizations. Practice starts in late summer and continues throughout the school year.

Red Peppers are students who serve as the band for the show choir.  This band competes with the show choir in competition and performs at a variety of functions.  Participants in the Red Peppers are selected by auditions.

Sportsmanship Committee

The sportsmanship committee is a group of athletes who represent Wapakoneta High School at various sporting events and WBL meetings. These athletes, chosen by the athletic director, demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field.

Student Senate

The Student Senate of Wapakoneta High School is a group of elected students in grades 9-12 who meet regularly to:

• Provide a forum for student opinion and interests

• Involve students in purpose-oriented activities

• Participate in democratically run meetings

• Appoint students for service on committees

• Encourage desirable attitudes and good citizenship

• Promote leadership

• Promote human relations

Student Senate runs the Homecoming event each year and hosts a Red Cross Blood Drive annually. Members also participate in community service events as they arise throughout the year.

Tutoring 
Advisor: Mrs. Epperly eppede@wapak.org 
Students interested in tutoring elementary or fellow high school students can pick up a form in the guidance office. The guidance counselors then contact the necessary parties and arrange the services. This serves as an opportunity to interact with different age groups while helping fellow students to improve in a variety of subjects.

Wapak - Germany Sister Cities Organization

Opportunity for WHS students to host and/or travel to our German Sister-City of Lengerich.

Wapakoneta Internship Networking (W.I.N.)
Advisor: Mrs. Mears mearla@wapak.org 
Students can apply to complete an internship in an area of interest to them.  Interships will be arranged by Mrs. Mears and will take place during the student's Senior year during study halls or after school.  The internships are designed to help students get entry level exposure to a particular industry or field.  Internships allow students to figure out what they enjoy, what they are good at, what further training is needed and, lastly, what jobs will be available to them upon graduation.  Students have the opportunity to earn their Ohio Means Jobs Seal through their internship.

Yearbook (Retro) 
Advisor: Mrs. LaMarr lamahe@wapak.org 
The yearbook members meet after the regular school day to edit the Retro, a pictorial record of the students, faculty, and events of the high school. Membership on the yearbook staff is both an honor and a responsibility, for the staff members must learn every phase of journalism in producing a yearbook that will please the readers. Credit may be earned for involvement in yearbook activities.
